Inequality, Qué Es Eso, Sir?

Inequality, Qué Es Eso, Sir?

IMG_0022IMG_0023

I try my best

to be

a culturally

responsive teacher.

The other day

I focused on

how women are

seen as weaker

in our

Mexican-American

culture.

These were their responses

about gender inequality.

I took the liberty

of arranging some for rhyme.

Everything is [sic].

I expect my wife to cooke me some food

To wash my clothe

To make me

a masash

To doblar my clothe

To wash.

I will go to sleep

Go to work

Go to take a shower

Go to eate.

I expect my spouse to take care of baby,

Laundry,

Clean the house,

Make my bed

And wear the blouse I said.

I expect my wife to be nice to me,

don’t be

pressure

Don’t get in fights,

take care

of stuff.

I will make sure

we have enough

I will cook for her

in special days,

Give time for the family,

Yes it’s fair, Because we’re ladys

and Men are Made to respect

and protect

us. We Womans

work but in our house

cleaning, washing, cooking.

Men are more respected in our culture.

I’m a Male and males are men.

Males are stronger.

Men have more Power, it’s true, sir

Because they do stuff that is harder then

what girls do.

No because the boys expect the Girls with tight shorts.

And they expect them Perfect.

The gender male is more respected

In Mexican-American culture,

Because males abuse of female.

I expect that he

Give me money

That he respect me

That he cleans the house

That he be funny

I will respect him

Be fair

Not let him touch my body

I will not get attractive for other

mens.

How can we defeat subjugation

when we only have 54 minutes

of conversation?

The marginalization of women

should end with our youth.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting!

My aim is to expose the shortcomings of our culture
while teaching them to effectively communicate their
opinion. I teach grades 6-8 and they are all showing
      much progress. (:
